Our Conductors

Robert Rotar OAM
 
The conductor and director of BYO1, Robert Rotar is held in high regard in musical circles throughout Queensland. He has regularly been a guest conductor for the Queensland Youth Orchestra, conducting QYO2/BYO1 for combined performances on tour and QYP/BYO1 during their tour to Bundaberg in 2022. Robert most recently conducted an ensemble from Queensland Symphony Orchestra combined with BYO1 and Bella Canna Strings to celebrate our 50th Anniversary and the 75th Anniversary of QSO in 2022, and a performance by the ACO Collective in 2023. Robert conducted Bundaberg Municipal Band for 21 years, and has been guest conductor for Bundaberg Orpheus Singers and Bundaberg Sinfonietta. He also conducts ProMusica. 

Robert received an OAM in 2023 in recognition of his many years of service to the performing arts in our community. 
 
Robert is an instrumental music specialist teaching woodwind and brass at St. Luke's Anglican School in Bundaberg.

Delwyn Ainsworth
 
Delwyn is Assistant Conductor of Bundaberg Youth Orchestra. She had previously been Assistant Conductor of BYO2 in 2018, and was appointed Acting Conductor of BYO2 in 2019 after the retirement of the former BYO2 Conductor Barry Davis.
Delwyn was guest conductor of Bundaberg Symphony Orchestra in 2016 after the retirement of Fred Coleman. She conducted the combined choir/orchestra during the Richard Gill Boot Camp Concert in 2013 joined by participants from Bundaberg Orpheus Singers and Bundaberg Youth Orchestra. Delwyn played flute for the Shalom College musical orchestra for their musical "Annie" in 2018 and also plays regularly in rehearsals an
d on tour with BYO1.  In 2016 she sang with Queensland Symphony Orchestra, TAV and Orpheus for a performance of "The Messiah" under the direction of Gordon Hamilton at the Moncrieff. Delwyn also plays pipe organ, was a member of the University of Queensland choir and a percussionist with Queensland Wind and Brass. Delwyn is an Early Childhood Music teacher.
